2007 Sauvignon Blanc | 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon | 2006 Rattlesnake Hills Syrah | 2006 Yakima Valley Syrah

2007 Sauvignon Blanc - Label

  • Composition: 100% Sauvignon Blanc
  • Vineyard: Buoy Vineyards Benton City, WA –Yakima Valley AVA
  • Harvest Date / Brix: Sept 15th 2007 at 22.3 Brix
  • Alcohol: 12.5%
  • Winemaking: Some crushed and whole cluster pressed. 20 day fermentation with cultured yeast and partial ML fermentation
  • Aging: 9mo in 100% new Acacia wood – one of only 30 barrels of this kind worldwide, produced by Tonnellerie Loureiro in Bordeaux France.
Winemaker Notes:
Buoy Vineyards sits above the Yakima River, just outside of the Red Mountain AVA and continues to be a Lantz Cellars source since 2003.

Crisp, dry, toast, smoke, citrus, hay, mineral, wild dark honey and Acacia flower -not a wimpy Sauvignon Blanc yet balanced with a full mid-palette and a dry finish. A very unique wine. Featuring an artist series label with artwork by Anne Schreivogl of Anacortes, Washington.

Aging potential: This wine is higher in phenolics than most whites, and could potentially age quite well for 3 or more years.
Bottled: July 2008
Yield: 25 cases
Retail: $19.00

2006 Cabernet Sauvignon - Label
2006 Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
  • Composition: 50% Clone 2 and 50 % Clone 6 Cabernet Sauvignon
  • Vineyard: Lawrence Vineyards Royal City, WA –Columbia Valley AVA
  • Harvest Date / Brix: Nov 1st 2006 at 26.2 Brix
  • Alcohol: 14.8%
  • Winemaking: Cultured yeast and manual punch-downs daily for 10 days. Gently pressed and complete ML fermentation.
  • Aging: 22mo in Bordeaux style thin stave barrels. New Vicard M+ and single use Taransuad from Quillceda Creek Vintners

Winemaker Notes:
Harvested after Halloween, this Cabernet had serious “hang-time” on the vine but it’s not a “fruit-bomb”. Lawrence Vineyards is located on the south facing slopes of the 1600 foot Frenchmen Hills. Due to high elevation, the vineyard endures wide diurnal (day to night) temperature change, which helps retain the natural acidity and balanced classic Cabernet Sauvignon flavors.

This wine is very aromatic with a lot of finesse. Cassis, cherry, cedar cigar box, hints of olive, pepper and mineral lift from the glass and as the wine has time to open up it reveals hints of butterscotch and bitter-sweet chocolate. Classic Cabernet flavors and the right level of acidity for compatibility with food.

Aging potential: It’s anybody’s guess, but this wine has the structure to reach its prime between 2013 and 2017. Drinks nicely now.
Bottled: August 2008
Yield: 75 cases
Retail: $34.00

2006 Rattlesnake Hills Syrah - Label
2006 Rattlesnake Hills Syrah
  • Composition: 97% Saralee clone Syrah and 3% Walla Walla Viognier
  • Vineyard: Verhey Vineyards Union Gap, WA –Rattlesnakes Hills AVA
  • Harvest Date / Brix: Oct 14thst 2006 at 27.2 Brix
  • Alcohol: 14.4%
  • Winemaking: Cultured yeast and manual punch-downs daily for 12 days. Gently pressed and complete ML fermentation. Blended with 3% Viognier.
  • Aging: 18mo in 100% new Rhone style 92 gallon casks. Demptos medium plus, cooper select – center of France.

Winemaker Notes:
Verhey Vineyards sits on top of an ancient riverbed of the Yakima River and has a very warm microclimate with drying winds. The fruit can be bit fussy to work with but it produces some of my favorite wines. Many thanks to my dedicated volunteers who helped hand sort and crush this fruit when it arrived at the winery at 10 o’clock at night.

Blueberry, fresh plum, floral notes, hints of sweet tar, game and vanilla. Pretty aromas that continue to evolve for hours after it is opened. Juicy fore-palette, supple mouth-feel, and a peppery, licorice finish. Elegant, with depth and complexity.

Aging potential:  Not a wine designed for the long haul, but it should handsomely reward anyone patient enough to wait a couple of years. It’s Syrah, who wants to wait anyway…
Bottled: April 2008
Yield: 116 cases
Retail: $27.00

Amazing aromatics. Slightly racy, bright berry, spicy, hints of toasted marshmallow and campfire smoke, firm tannins. More of a Northern Rhone style Syrah with a new-world twist.

Aging potential: This wine has the chops necessary for cellaring to 2014 and beyond.
